Mac Workshop - design for print

We were given an illustrator file which Mike put together which had 8 errors which would of caused problems when it is send to print, our tasks was to look through the image and all the settings of the file to find the errors and fix them.

1. Their is an RGB colour swatch used in the image which when sent to print the CMYK printers would not be able to match the colour, this needs to be changed to the closest CMYK or a pantone colour before printing.

2. This image is the wrong resolution, 720 dpi needs to be changed to 300 dpi/

3. This image is far too large and been scaled down, it says in the information that the image is scaled to 15% which means you are working with an unnecessarily large file and when it is sent to print indesign has allot more to do to process the print, the image needs to be resized in photoshop before sending to print.

4. The text on the bottom of the last page uses the registration colour and a consequence of that is that it will appear on every printing plate. Too much ink may be applied and their could also be registration problems.

5. The image of the tree silhouette was not linked correctly, when the file was opened indesign could not find the original illustrator file therefore the image would not be printed correctly, this can be fixed by finding the original image and putting the location in the links menu.

6. The first page of the document has no bleed which can cause problems when trimming.

7. Some of the pantone colours have been left in the swatch which are not being used therefore when you open the 7 plates of colour separations in the print menu their are 2 colours their which dont mean to which could cause problems whilst printing, these colours need to be deleted before sending to print.

8. RGB again on page 2 which needs to be changed to CMYK.
