its nice that - textiles
The textiles zine. really struggled with the cover for this zine.
could seem to create anything nice/simple that showcased the textiles work very well.
this is what i decided worked best after messing about with different concepts.
Some other, less successful attempts..
its nice that - architecture
Architecture zine, decided to change the complete overall look of this zine.
Using the green stock this time with a simplified, more effective cover.
its nice that - zines.
Started putting together some of the zines applying the layout and style that me and michael decided to use throughout. Here is the photography zine nearly finished.
its nice that - spreads layout
messing around with layouts to use for the spread of the magazines.
The spreads would mostly be quite simple, with the main focus being on the artwork showcased within them,
here are some experiments with different layouts.

its nice that - logo variations.
decided that we should create a little logo/symbol to use within the zines, just to tie them together more.
The new idea that was whatever the colour stock we decided to use would be, that colour would then be applied throughout the spreads within the magazine for certain little details like this symbol as well as small amounts of text.
here are some of the ideas for the symbol

its nice that - more cover designs
starting to put together the finished cover designs to print.
here are some more experiments and variations.

Its nice that.
Today we laser cut the it's nice that logo onto strips of card to add to the cover of each zine, just to add some more visual consistency to the zines and make them look more like a set.
really happy with the way they turned out.

photography cover.
Finished photography cover,
the idea was to do a series of 12 zines between us so 6 each, each cover slightly different according to the subject matter however having the 'its nice that' and titles of each zine in the same place for each one.
Also we plan on buying different stock for each cover to make each one different, hoping to find 12 pastel colour stocks that we can use.
Here is the finished photography cover and back.
cover experiments
An indesign file holding all of the cover experiments that i tried out for the brief, trying to find a simple style which would fit the content and could be applied to each of the zine covers.
these are some of my experiments.
its nice that - concept.
The idea we came up with to tie together each of the magazines, making them into more of a collectable item so people would want to collect the whole range was to have the titles of all the zines written on the cover but with all crossed out except the edition it's self. Like so.
final brief, D&AD
Looking through the D&AD competition briefs and the time we had left for this module, with only 2 weeks left until hand in I decided that the 'it's nice that'' brief would be the most suitable brief to work on, this is because the outcome for the brief could basically just be anything as long as it promoted the website. I thought the best thing to do would be to just make a series of promotional posters, which would be quite straight forward also allowing me to move away from all my previous co-orporate, branding, boring briefs and create some design work targeted towards designers allowing me to be completely creative with the outcomes.
However as Michael was working on the same brief we both came up with quite a nifty idea and decided to collaborate on it. Creating a series of zines showcasing the work shown on the website, each zine focussing on a separate subject which would be released every month.
So you would get a photography edition, illustration.. and so on.
