OUGD103 - Communication is a Virus - Group Brief

Initial ideas and brainstorming for our actual brief 'tell a convincing lie'.

These are the Presentation boards which we created to take to our crit along with our fake briefs presentation boards.

Crit Feedback;

Amber and Joe seemed to get really excited our about our idea, some points which were made during the crit where, try to convince the 1st years aswell to test their awareness, maybe try dressing Niall as a woman, try to give the project a purpose like if we was trying to prove a point as to how visually aware people are to their surroundings.

OUGD103 - Communication is a Virus - Group Brief, posters.

We produced 3 A2 presentation boards to breakdown our groups idea for the brief in our crit on friday to receive feedback and help with direction from our tutors, the boards showed our concept, content and method of delivery.

OUGD103 - Communication is a Virus - Group Brief

For this brief we were all placed into small groups to collaborate with each other to try to achieve on of these goals;
The goal in which we decided on was to tell a lie convincingly and the idea was to fool graphic designers at our college into thinking that one of our group members was a visiting professional graphic designer coming in to give a talk to our students. In order to do this we aimed to create this fictitious as well as his whole background in order to make him look real, this would mean that we would have to create a website for him, a portfolio filled with his own work with a flowing style within each piece and experiment with a range of accents and appearances to successfully disguise one of our group members as this graphic designer.
However in order to achieve this it also meant that we would also have to work on a fake brief within studio time so the other students wouldn't become suspicious as to what we was doing. So as well as 'tell a convincing lie' we was also pretending to be working on 'Get people to try something new' and Initial ideas that we came up with were to have some sort of a flashmob which would ensure the message got out to a lot of people ensuring that they would gather in a given place at which point we would have to consider how we could encourage them to try something new.

These are our initial brainstorms of ideas for this 'fake brief'.

Indesign.. session 2

Session 2 learning how to use indesign.

Frames over text.
Use the pen and path tool and shapes to create text boxes.

Use the text wrap pallet to wrap the text around an image.

Then increase the margins to offset from the image slightly to make it more legible.

Reproducing a magazine layout.

Created a new document measuring the margins on the magazine and matching them up on InDesign.

Then I matched the first headline as well as i could, added some text and used text wrap around the image of the man.

Then to wrap the text around the outline of the image set the contour options to alpha channel.

Page one completed.
