studio workshop

In this session we began coming up with initial ideas of how to animate our words, 'collide and drop'. We learnt how to story board and began with a quick sketch of initial 5 boards for each word, one frame had to represent a series/the end of a series.

Drop

Collide

Then after sketching out our initial ideas after lunch we were 5 x 5 frame sequences showing our word in movement. However with each set of frames a restriction was added for the animation.

For the first exercise we could only change the form, dimension and scale.
Something i found it quite hard to get my head around, because the word collide is visually a moving word, you picture it moving around and crashing into things, however with only being aloud to move the form dimensions and scale it was quite hard to communicate it. I got around it my making most of scale, giving it the impression of crashing down to the ground.

The next exercise focused on changing Lateral or vertical positioning and changing the position, the form and scale was fixed and not allowed to be changed.
I found this exercise allot easier, communicating collide by having it crash into things, however after you have done the obvious crashing it into the side of the frame it's hard to come up with ideas, also not being able to change the form and structure of the letter it was quite hard to communicate a collision.

The next one was allot easier, not being able to change the position of the letter however you could change the form of the letter, so communication collision was quite easy and a nice thing to sketch out, having the word shatter and break up after it collides with something.
